Why wouldn't I use the plastic loop on my Nalgene?

To put simply - the plastic loop is not built for hanging your bottle. The plastic will stretch and break overtime, leading to lost bottles or a hazard in high exposure activities.

Why does the Cap Strap not fit on the 48oz or Ultralite bottles?

The Cap Strap is designed to screw onto Nalgene and similar bottles and sit under the Cap. In order for a bottle to be compatible with the Cap Strap there needs to be some space between the Cap and the lower flange of the bottle. On the 48oz and Ultralite bottles, the gap is too narrow and the Cap Strap stops the bottle from sealing.
